REJUVENATING LIFE PROGRAM
The Rejuvenating Life Program is meant to help low income seniors in the transition of navigating life alone. With so many financial issues to deal with and scammers calling or emailing, this program intends to help seniors navigate through by bringing in expert speakers. The speakers will help with zoom, email, on-line-banking, fraud and scams, and finally finances including banking, investments and income tax information (but will not include completing income tax forms).
This program will also provide two Advance Care Planning sessions in each community of Oliver, Osoyoos, and Okanagan Falls, and will provide grief support when necessary.
One time per month there will be armchair travel and appies. This will be once a month spread between Oliver, Osoyoos and Okanagan Falls – so optimally four times in each community (depending on attendees from the area). We will bring in a travel movie and attempt to bring in some tasty morsels of the area you are visiting (e.g. Portugal – Portuguese cuisine; China – Chinese cuisine, etc). If we are unable to source out foods from the location travelled, we will bring in other appies.
This program is available to low income seniors who are alone and in need of support in their daily lives. This is a program to help participants navigate through some of their daily routines and will run from April 1, 2024 – March 29, 2025. Attendees can attend as many or as little events as they wish and can join the program at any time for its duration.
This program is available to residents of Oliver, Osoyoos, Okanagan Falls, Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen Areas A, C and D and Osoyoos Indian Band.

GARDEN BOX PROJECT
Desert Valley Hospice Society, through a general donation of $2,500 from Valley First/First West Foundation, had the Men’s Shed in Oliver building garden boxes which we have plated with a variety of vegetables. The vegetables will be handed out to low income seniors in our programs and other low income senior that may be referred to us, with any remaining vegetables going to the local food banks in Oliver, Osoyoos and Okanagan Falls.
If you are, or know of, a senior that is struggling to buy fresh vegetables, please contact us at 250-495-1590 and we will include them on the list. The vegetables are in limited supply this year and will be distributed as they are available as as supplies last on a first come, first serve basis.

STEPPING OUT OF GRIEF
STEPPING OUT OF GRIEF PROGRAM
Desert Valley Hospice is implementing a new program to help those who are grieving step past their grief, even for a brief moment, and join a group of others in a similar situation in a social setting. This group will get together once a month to share stories, socialize, have a chance to meet others and join in activities. These activities could include a theatre production, music event, or physical activity, depending on the group’s mobility. The event may also include a meal and transportation.
The criteria for this program is that participants must be grieving the loss of a close loved one (spouse, child, parent) OR have a close loved one (spouse, child, parent) in Palliative Care. AND the participant must not already be actively involved in other groups. This is a program to help participants navigate their way back into the social aspects of life and help them to meet others – taking the first step out of the lonely grief process.
This program is available to residents of Oliver, Osoyoos, Okanagan Falls, Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen Areas A, C and D and Osoyoos Indian Band.
